What you know, and what you are guessing
A read indicator is an app signal, not access to someone's attention or intentions. Someone may open a message while occupied, need time to answer or see no question to respond to. They may also be avoiding a conversation. The receipt alone does not distinguish these possibilities.
‘Left on delivered’ is different: the app has not shown the message as read. Neither label tells you how much someone cares. App settings and usage can affect what you see.
Choose a response that fits the message
A practical deadline calls for a different follow-up than an ordinary chat. Avoid using a fixed number of hours as a universal rule.

A follow-up that does not demand reassurance

If this keeps happening
Repeatedly unanswered questions can leave you uncertain even if each individual delay has an explanation. Describe the pattern and its effect. Ask whether your communication expectations are compatible.
Try not to turn timestamps or social activity into a surveillance routine. You can decide that an arrangement is not working without proving a hidden motive. Chat analysis can organize a history of exchanges, but it cannot explain a person's private reason for not replying.
Common questions
How long counts as being ignored?
There is no universal threshold. Your usual contact, the message and any agreed deadline are better context than an arbitrary timer.
Should I leave them on read too?
You can reply when it suits you, but deliberately using silence as a punishment is unlikely to clarify what either person wants.
Is being left on read ghosting?
One unanswered message is not enough to establish ghosting. Ghosting usually refers to ending ongoing contact without an explanation.
