He's still warm when you talk.
He reaches out less often.

He starts fewer conversations from around May 18, and replies take longer. The affectionate messages continue. If a nice text leaves you hopeful, but you're still unsure where you stand, that difference may help explain it.

You have a change you can ask about. The messages alone can't tell you what he feels or what else is happening in his life.

Here's where the difference shows up.

Before the changeMay 10
Him

Want to grab dinner on Friday? I can book that place you mentioned.

You

That sounds lovely. Friday works for me!

He suggests dinner, names a day, and offers to book.

After the changeMay 24
You

Want to pick a day this week?

Him

This week is a lot. Maybe soon?

You suggest meeting. He says he is busy, without offering another time in this exchange.

A few days later, he writes, "Hey you, thanks for checking in. Been thinking about you." It's an affectionate reply. There still isn't a new plan in these excerpts.

What do these measures mean?

A new chat starts after a gap of at least six hours. His share is the proportion he starts in each period. Typical reply time is the median of measured replies. Neither measure tells you how he feels about you.

You can ask him to reach out more.

Work, stress, or conversations you've had in person could explain some of the change. His warm replies matter too. There isn't enough here to conclude that he has lost interest in you.

Still, you're doing more of the reaching out. If you'd like that to feel more mutual, you can say so. You don't have to work out exactly why things changed before telling him what you need.

What you could say

If you still want to see him, a specific invitation gives him a chance to help make it happen.

"Would you like to pick a day to see each other this week?"

Use words that sound like you. Suggest a day if you have one in mind, then leave room for him to answer.

After you ask

These are possible responses to consider. Give the conversation some room; a single delayed reply won't settle it.

He picks a day and follows through
Make the plan if you want to. See whether that effort continues beyond this invitation.
He is busy, but offers another time
You have something to work with. Find a time that suits you too.
He keeps things vague
If this keeps happening without another suggestion, you can say you need firmer plans and decide how much effort you want to keep putting in.
He says he doesn't want to take this further
Take that answer seriously. You can be disappointed and still respect what he has told you.

You can want more consistency, even when his reasons are understandable.
